Fly!

"When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe that one of two things will happen:

There will be something solid for you to stand upon, or you will be taught to fly."

- Patrick Overton

Yes, and I find I am not always awake to the fact that I have walked to the edge of all the light I know. I am all too often stumbling to the edge of darkness in an unconscious stupor. When I find that I am there at the edge and then falling so fast it wakes me out of my sleep state I am always amazed to find that in spite of myself I begin to fly and even soar.

Truly I am grateful!

Inside Outside

Today while emailing with a friend, I was re-minded of a little piece of Wisdom that has been so helpful to me over the years....

Don't compare your insides with someone elses outsides.

I have heard this over and over, yet I catch myself doing it all of the time. Almost every one I have ever talked to about this can relate. Today as I ponder this I am also re-minding myself not to compare the "inside" of today to the "outside" of tomorrow.

Any thoughts you might want to share on this?

Two in One

Today I had an awareness while processing my thoughts and feelings out loud with a friend. When I feel off kilter and I hear myself saying, "I don't know. I just don't know," what is really going on for me is I'm not in control. Being in control gives me the illusion of feeling like "I do know."

What I have also noticed is that the times I had serenity is not when I was "in control," but rather when I was "in faith." Faith that it is all unfolding in the highest and best way, even when I don't see it, don't understand it or (believe it or not) don't like it.

So, how is this a two in one re-minder? It's two in one because, once again, I remembered that processing things out loud is often all I need to come back to a bit of wisdom I already have. Try it, I bet it will work for you, too.

Just Keep Swimming

One of my favorite quotes comes from the movie "Finding Nemo," a wonderful animated movie whose characters are sea fish. One of the main characters, Dori, cheerfully exclaims, "Just keep swimming," in the face of challenging situations. I have heard this quoted in all kinds of different situations by people generally referring to keep moving towards a goal.

Yesterday while talking with a friend I suddenly said, "It's easier to keep swimming in a pond than in a desert." Stating the obvious made me laugh at my self, but upon giving it further thought I realized that often a good re-minder of the obvious is just what we need. It seems that sometimes that which is obvious is exactly what eludes us.

If you want to be an artist, immerse yourself in a "pond" of successful artist. If you want to move forward in a new business endeavour immerse yourself in a "pond" of forward moving business people. Once you are in the water all you have to do is "move your fins" and you will "just keep swimming" with a lot less effort.
